So much for the saying “A dog is for life, not just for Christmas”

The first abandoned dogs of 2017 have been handed in and are being looked after  Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

A partially-sighted pooch was the first dog abandoned in 2017, found wandering the streets of Croydon on New Year’s Day.

Roger was found cold and alone by a kind-hearted passer-by, who dropped him off at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

The Rottweiler, found soon after Christmas, appears to have been abandoned.

He is microchipped, but the rescue centre, which anticipates many more dogs will be abandoned by their owners this month, has been unable to contact his owners.

This means it is unlikely he will be reunited with his family.

If Battersea is unable to locate the owners, Roger will be looking for a new home this year.

Also abandoned at the very start of the year, on the 2nd January, was Tugz, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

The elderly dog was brought in after being found in Tooting by a worried resident.

Thanks as always to to Battersea Dogs and Cats home for the wonderful work they do.
