There were a total of four fire engines and over 20 firefighters on scene at a fire that broke out in a block of flats on Thessaly Road, Battersea, this morning at about 8 am. An air ambulance landed near the flats.The first floor flat was still alight at 9am, but the London fire brigade has now confirmed the fire is under control.

A witness is said to have described a man ‘was on fire’ . The man has  been taken to a south London hospital with severe burns.One woman was treated for smoke inhalation.

Half of the first floor was damaged by the fire and the cause of the fire is unknown.
